Mini Pics, movies, Lots of both!

The Pictorial Targa story.

Matt and Robbo gleefully accept their Targa trophies and then stagger back to the fun!

Matt and his good mate, Robbo Dyba competed in the 2002 Targa Tasmania Rally of over 2000Km of sealed roads. As well as the pictures offered over the next three pages, don't forget to read the story, it has lots of great detail you don't get in the pics. Don't miss the great videos from the in cabin mounted camera, true Targa action (found in the gallery).

cheers,

Jacob

"New Blew Being Stickered" is early in the Targa preparation, like a few days before we left for Tassie :) Here Steve from "Star Stuff Graphics" is applying the Vinyl to effectively "Rally-ize" the Beast. "New Blew -Steve Stickers" is just the otherside of the mini & more of those "heavy" vinyl stickers just to keep the brick stuck to the road.. Starting to take shape here.
"The UltimateRallyPackage" ...need I say anymore???...notice how "LOW" the whole lot sits...in the storage bay under the trayback is nearly another whole mini in bits ; spare engine, front disc assys, adjustable control arms ,distributor, starter, alternator, radiator, etc, etc etc, tools, cleaning equipment camping equipment, more tools & even more spares including spares for the Kombi ute...It was on the bump stops the whole trip there & back. :) (not kidding) "Robbo Charnce & me"...this is it!!!...we`re about to leave for Tassie & just saying Bye Byes to my most favourite Niece "Charnce".
"RobboNude@Byron" Now as you may have noticed the surf board on the roofracks ontop of the mini...well, if I go anywhere near the coast, I just have to have a paddle & this Targa Trip is no exception, here we have stopped into Byron Bay for a quick "Get wet" as the surf was nothing to write home about. Robbo is seen here in one of his best profiles....UUURRGGGHHH!!! "Muffler Fell Off"...well...after a counter meal at a pub in Coffs Harbour, it was Robbo`s turn to drive & wouldn`t you know it, the bloody muffler has to fall off. We quickly retrieved it & made our way to Sydney where we were to stay at one of Robbo`s old school mates place in Bondi by the beach.
"Bondi Beach Stop Over"...& this is taken just up the road from where we >stayed in Bondi (Coogee Beach actually) but Bondi sounds better & is the beach in the background. "Vintage VW supplies" - Well we did have some "grumbly" reduction box bearings(rear wheel bearings, there are 2 gears & 4 bearings in each side on these krout-wagens) on the trip down from Brisbane to Sydney so after we left Bondi/Coogee we made our way to Mini Kingdom to see one of my dad`s old mates "John Smith" & find a good V-dub repairs place. John said that "Boris at Vintage Vee Dub supplies" is the go. So we landed there & hit him up for some workshop space & some bits to shut the noisy bearings up. Now as it happens, Boris has done Targa on many occasions & knows only too well how things can get & is more than happy to lend a hand... and big time! He emptied his whole shop of the V-dubs blocking the way, lent us all the tools AND sold us the spares at cost...AWESOME!!! I can`t thank Boris enough & am sending him some beers & some picys of the adventure.
"Robbo@VintageVwsupplies"Robbo wasn`t feeling too well by this time & had a head ache you could "hear" pounding away & all he wanted to do was pound the Kombi ute with a hammer.
"me @ vintage VW supplies" If you cant beat em.."BEAT EM"!!!! & use a bigger hammer :) Here i`m showing the ancient Chinese art of "Twisted Sandshoe". Now don`t try this at home kids as it can stay permanently attached to your face, only well trained students of "The Master'" can do this without hurting themselves or staying permanently in this position. As you will notice, I am also swinging a large hammer, just to stay in the theme of things. (Didn`t want to feel left out hey?)
"Boris @ Vintage VW supplies" Here is Boris, owner of "Vintage Vee Dub Supplies" weilding a welder to the right rear reduction box welch plug. They are damn hard to get out sometimes so a welder is used to attach something to the welch plug to pull it out with. He`s a legend that Boris & I owe him BIGTIME!!!!
"Muffler Repair" While at Boris`s shop, we did manage to effect a small repair to the muffler as well, & with the help of a coke can, 2 hose clamps & a piece of welding wire, the muffler is back in action :) It actually didn`t make much difference really, sounded better off than on :)
"Pot Of Gold"...now this is one of the best photos I`ve ever taken I reckon & as you can see, there is a great big "Pot of Gold" at the bottom of this rainbow. :) We had left Sydney & were on our way to Yass to stay the night and, well, what can I say? ...I just had to stop for this picy.   On to Page 2 3
